On a sunny but blustery day, St Dogmaels edged Cardigan by the odd goal in a tough and ultimately exciting Easter Monday Cup Final.

The game began in a manner which told the story of the match as a whole with Cardigan dominating without creating a clear cut chance and St Dogmaels making the most of their only opportunity to take the lead. Cardigan conceded a needless foul near the halfway line and from the ensuing free kick, Steve Jerry Williams was able to nod the opener with little opposition from the Magpies' defence.

Following the goal, neither team created much in the way of a chance and half-time arrived without much incident.

Aware that they were behind, Cardigan started the second half much stronger although their goal was a long time in the making. Following a period of sustained pressure, Osian Williams found himself free at the back post to header the equaliser.

Energised by their dominance, Cardigan continued to press and soon produced another chance to rattle the crossbar from an excellent volley - St Dogmaels must have feared the worst.

But with extra-time looming, St Dogmaels found themselves with an attacking corner and with what was only their second real chance of the game, Ioan Owen was able to head home from all of a yard to take the Cup. Far from a classic, the St Dogmales players and fans will not let that fact affect their celebrations this evening.
